Roasted Turkey & Fig Sandwich

Updated: Dec 22, 2025

If you love cozy sandwiches that pair beautifully with a bowl of soup, my roasted turkey and fig sandwich might just be your new favorite. Sweet fig jam meets sharp cheddar and juicy roasted turkey tucked inside a grilled, buttery baguette — a combo that somehow tastes both comforting and a little indulgent. It’s the perfect bridge between simple lunch and special-enough-for-guests.

This sandwich is especially great in the fall and winter when you’re pairing it with soups like my butternut squash and caramelized onion soup — the sweet, rich flavors complement a warm bowl of soup perfectly. The whole sandwich comes together in about 15 minutes, but it looks and tastes like you spent way more time on it.

Whether you’re making it for an easy weeknight dinner, a lunch that feels a bit elevated, or a recipe to serve with friends on a chilly afternoon, this roasted turkey and fig sandwich is simple, flavorful, and endlessly customizable.

Prep Time: 10 minutes

Cook Time: 5 minutes

Serves: 2

Ingredients:

1 Gluten Free Baguette

6-8 slices Roasted turkey

6 Slices Sharp Cheddar Cheese

2 tbsp Butter

1/4 cup Fig Jam

2 cups Mixed Greens

Instructions:

  1. Set your oven to the broil setting. If your broiler has strength options, go with medium so the sandwich doesn’t burn before the cheese melts.

  2. Slice the baguette in half lengthwise. Spread each side generously with softened butter, then spread fig jam on top of the butter layer. A generous layer of fig jam is worth it here — it’s the star flavor of the sandwich.

  3. Lay slices of sharp cheddar over both sides of the bread, then pile the roasted turkey on one side. The cheese under the turkey helps it melt into the bread and hold everything together.

  4. Place the prepared baguette on a baking sheet and slide it under the broiler for about 4–5 minutes. You’re looking for the cheese to melt and bubble, and the edges of the bread to get lightly golden. Keep an eye on it so the bread doesn’t burn.

  5. Remove the sandwich from the oven and add the mixed greens on one half. Press gently so they nestle into the melted cheese. Then slice the baguette into 4 segments and serve warm.

Tips for Best Results:

  • Watch the Broiler: Broilers vary, so stay close while it cooks. You want cheese melty and bread lightly toasted, not charred.

  • Use Good Quality Fig Jam or Chutney: Since fig jam is a main flavor, using a quality jam makes a real difference.

  • Don’t Skip the Greens: The fresh greens add brightness and texture that elevate the sandwich.

  • Customizations: Add sliced apples for extra crunch, a drizzle of balsamic glaze for tangy sweetness, or swap Swiss cheese for a milder base.
